One-Way Slab Reinforcement Detailing per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD (v12)
How does ideCAD control One-Way slab reinforcement detailing according to ACI 318-19?
The minimum specified concrete cover for nonprestressed cast-in-place slabs is determined automatically according to Table 20.5.1.3.1.
Transverse reinforcement is detailed automatically according to 9.7.6.2
Covers of reinforced concrete elements are defined by user.

Concrete cover for reinforcement is determined according to 20.5.1. The minimum specified concrete cover for nonprestressed cast-in-place slabs is determined according to Table 20.5.1.3.1.
Concrete exposure | Member | Reinforcement | Specified cover, in. |
---|---|---|---|
Cast against and permanently in contact with ground | All | All | 3 |
Exposed to weather or in contact with ground | All | #6 through #18 bars | 2 |
#5 bar and smaller | 1-1/2 | ||
Not exposed to weather or in contact with ground | Slabs, joints, and walls | #14 and #18 bars | 1-1/2 |
#11 bar and smaller | 3/4 | ||
Beams, colums, pedestals | Primary reinforcement, stirrups, ties, spirals and hoops | 1-1/2 |
Development lengths of deformed reinforcement is determined according to 25.4. Detailed information: Development of Reinforcement per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD.
Splices of deformed reinforcement is determined according to 25.5. Detailed information: Splices per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD. The minimum spacing of reinforcement s is determined according to 25.2. Detailed information: Minimum Spacing of Reinforcement per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD.
Maximum spacing, s, of reinforcement required by 7.5.2.3 shall be the lesser of 5h and 18 in.
Flexural reinforcement in nonprestressed slabs
Development of reinforcement is not permitted in critical locations such as points of maximum stress and points along the span where bent or terminated tension is no longer required to resist flexure.
Reinforcement extends beyond the point at which it is no longer required to resist flexure for a distance at least the greater of d and 12db, except at supports of simply-supported spans and at free ends of cantilevers.
Continuing flexural tension reinforcement has an embedment length at least ld beyond the point where bent or terminated tension reinforcement is no longer required to resist flexure.
Termination of reinforcement
At simple supports, at least one-third of the maximum positive moment reinforcement extends along the slab bottom into the support.
At other supports, at least one-fourth of the maximum positive moment reinforcement extends along the slab bottom into the support at least 6 in.
At simple supports and points of inflection, db for positive moment tension reinforcement is limited such that ld for that reinforcement satisfies the rules below.
At least one-third of the negative moment reinforcement at a support has an embedment length
beyond the point of inflection at least the greatest of d, 12db, and ln/16.
Structural Integrity
At least one-quarter of the maximum positive moment reinforcement should continue to obtain longitudinal structural integrity.
At noncontinuous supports, longitudinal structural integrity reinforcement is anchored to develop fy at the face of the support.
