One-Way Slab Reinforcement Limits per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD

How does ideCAD control One-Way slab reinforcement limits according to ACI 318-19?

  • A minimum area of flexural reinforcement, As,min is controlled and reported automatically.

  • The ratio of deformed shrinkage and temperature reinforcement area to gross concrete area are greater than or equal to 0.0018. It’s controlled automatically.

  • The spacing of deformed shrinkage and temperature reinforcement does not exceed the lesser of 5h and 18 in. It’s controlled automatically.

Symbols

Ag = gross area of concrete section, in.2
As,min = minimum area of flexural reinforcement in.2

Minimum flexural reinforcement in nonprestressed slabs

A minimum area of flexural reinforcement, As,min is controlled automatically. Minimum flexural reinforcement is the same as shrinkage and temperature in 24.4.3.2. In difference with shrinkage and temperature reinforcement, flexural reinforcement should be placed as close as the face of the concrete in tension due to applied loads.

As,min =0.0018Ag

According to 24.4.3.2, the ratio of deformed shrinkage and temperature reinforcement area to gross concrete area is determined as greater than or equal to 0.0018.

Minimum shrinkage and temperature reinforcement

Shrinkage and temperature reinforcements are determined according to 24.4.

  • The ratio of deformed shrinkage and temperature reinforcement area to gross concrete area is greater than or equal to 0.0018.

  • The spacing of deformed shrinkage and temperature reinforcement does not exceed the lesser of 5h and 18 in.
