5.1.1. Definition

In one of the two main approaches for the design of building bearing systems under the effect of earthquakes, the Assessment and Design According to the Shape Change (ŞGDT) approach:

(a) Internal force-deformation relations compatible with nonlinear modeling approaches of existing or previously pre-designed structural system elements are determined.

(b) Under the earthquake ground motion (s) selected in accordance with the projected performance target (s) , the load-bearing system is calculated by dynamic incremental methods in the static or time-domain, deformation requests for nonlinear ductile behavior and strength demands for brittle behavior are obtained. is.

(c) The deformation and internal force demands achieved are compared with the deformation and withstand capacities defined in accordance with the anticipated performance target (s) .

(d) For existing buildings , the assessment by deformation is completed by showing that deformation and strength demands are below or exceed the corresponding deformation and strength capacities.

(e) For existing buildings to be new or strengthened, if the deformation and strength demands are below the corresponding deformation and strength capacities, the design is completed according to the deformation . Otherwise, the element sections are changed and the calculation is repeated and re-evaluated and the design is finalized according to the deformation .

5.1.2.
