Column Reinforcement Detailing per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD

How does ideCAD control column reinforcement detailing according to ACI 318-19?

  • Reinforcement detailing is applied automatically in accordance with ACI 10.7.

  • Covers of reinforced concrete elements are defined by user.

Notation

db = Nominal diameter of bar, wire, or prestressing strand, in. 25.2 - Minimum spacing of reinforcement
fy = specified yield strength of nonprestressed reinforcement, psi
Ktr = transverse reinforcement index, in.
ld = development length in tension of deformed bar, deformed wire, plain and deformed welded wire reinforcement, or pretensioned strand, in.
s = center-to-center spacing of items, such as longitudinal reinforcement, transverse reinforcement, tendons, or anchors, in.
ψe = factor used to modify development length based on reinforcement coating
ψg = factor used to modify development length based on grade of reinforcement
ψs = factor used to modify development length based on reinforcement size
ψt = factor used to modify development length for casting location in tension
λ = modification factor to reflect the reduced mechanical properties of lightweight concrete relative to normalweight concrete of the same compressive strength

Concrete cover for reinforcement should be in accordance with ACI Table 20.5.1.3.1. The concrete cover is measured to the outer edge of ties, stirrups, or spirals if transverse reinforcement encloses main bars.

Cover or specified concrete is defined as the distance between the outermost surface of embedded reinforcement and the closest outer surface of the concrete.

Development lengths of concrete column reinforcement should be in accordance with Development of Reinforcement per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD title. In this case, for deformed bars or deformed wires, ld is calculated in accordance with ACI Table 25.4.2.3. Other conditions are described in the same title.

Transverse reinforcement is provided such that Ktr, along with development and splice length of longitudinal bars with fy ≥ 80,000 psi. The minimum value of Ktr is 0.5db. (Development of Reinforcement per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD)

Minimum reinforcement spacing s is determined according to Minimum Spacing of Reinforcement per ACI 318-19 with ideCAD title.

According to ACI 25.2.3, for longitudinal reinforcement in columns, clear spacing between bars is controlled automatically at least the greatest of

  • 1.5 in.

  • 1.5db
