Column Required Strength for SMF per AISC 341-16 with ideCAD

How does ideCAD calculate the column required strength for SMF according to AISC 341-16?

  • Two different situations are automatically taken into account by ideCAD Structural, when determining the internal forces for the design of the columns.

Two different situations are taken into account when determining the internal forces for the design of the columns:

  1. Shear force, axial force, and bending moments are computed using the load combinations, including the earthquake loads.

  2. An axial force is obtained by increasing the axial tensile and compressive forces by the overstrength factor Emh, regardless of the bending moment.
