Beam Reinforcement Detailing
Reinforcement detailing is applied automatically in accordance with ACI 9.7.
db = Nominal diameter of bar, wire, or prestressing strand, in.
fc' = specified compressive strength of concrete, psi
√fc‘ = square root of specified compressive strength of concrete, psi
fy = specified yield strength of nonprestressed reinforcement, psi
Ktr = transverse reinforcement index, in.
ld = development length in tension of deformed bar, deformed wire, plain and deformed welded wire reinforcement, or pretensioned strand, in.
s = center-to-center spacing of items, such as longitudinal reinforcement, transverse reinforcement, tendons, or anchors, in.
ψe = factor used to modify development length based on reinforcement coating
ψg = factor used to modify development length based on grade of reinforcement
ψs = factor used to modify development length based on reinforcement size
ψt = factor used to modify development length for casting location in tension
λ = modification factor to reflect the reduced mechanical properties of lightweight concrete relative to normalweight concrete of the same compressive strength
Concrete cover for reinforcement should be in accordance with ACI Table 18.104.22.168.1. Concrete cover is measured to the outer edge of ties, stirrups, or spirals if transverse reinforcement encloses main bars.
Cover or specified concrete are defined as distance between the outermost surface of embedded reinforcement and the closest outer surface of the concrete.
Development lengths of concrete beam reinforcement should be in accordance with Development of Reinforcement title. In this case, for deformed bars or deformed wires, ld is calculated in accordance with ACI Table 22.214.171.124. Other conditions are described in the same title.
Splices of deformed reinforcement should be in accordance with Splices title.
Transverse reinforcement is provided such that Ktr, along development and splice lenghts of longitudinal bars with fy ≥ 80,000 psi. Minimum value of Ktr is 0.5db. (Development of Reinforcement)
Minimum reinforcement spacing s is determined according to Minimum Spacing of Reinforcement title.
