Diaphragms, Chords, and Collectors per ASCE 7-17 with ideCAD

  • Diaphragm Design forces are determined automatically.

SYMBOLS

Fpx = the diaphragm design force at level x
Fi = the design force applied to level i
wi = the weight tributary to level i
wpx = the weight tributary to the diaphragm at level x

The diaphragms are designed according to the forces obtained from the analysis. However, the value determined with the equation below is the design force's lower limit. If the force obtained from the analysis is smaller than the force calculated by the equation below, the force calculated by the equation must be used in the design.

Diaphragms, chords, and collectors are designed in accordance with Sections 12.10.1 and 12.10.2.

Diaphragm Design

Diaphragm Design Forces

The diaphragm force is calculated by equation 12.10-1.

The force calculated by equation 12.10-1 cannot be less than that calculated by equation 12.10-2.

The force calculated by equation 12.10-1 cannot be greater than that calculated by equation 12.10-3.
